Farewell, Camille, go back to your convent, and when people will tell you these hideous stories which poisoned you, answer what i am about to say : All men are liars, fickle, false, talkative, hypocritical, arrogant and cowardly, despicable and sensual ; all the women are treacherous, deceitful, vain, curious and depraved; the world is a bottomless sewer where the most shapeless seals crawl and writhe on mountains of mud ; but there is in the world one thing, holy and sublime, it's the union of these two creatures so imperfect and so hideous. We are often deceived in love, often wounded and often unhappy ; but we love, and when we are on the edge of our grave, we turn back to look in our past ; and we think : «I have often suffered, sometimes I have been wrong, but I have loved. I was the one who lived, and not a fake human being created by my pride and my boredom."
